The Lions Club of Leigh on Sea has been very busy in the run up to Christmas; it has been collecting funds using their Christmas sleigh. The club has been visiting many local streets in the Leigh on Sea and Eastwood areas; they have also had static collections at Waitrose, Tesco's, Iceland and Rochford Corner.
On top of these collections Santa and his helpers have visited Fairways Primary school to hand out presents and sweets to some 400 children. We hope he can visit again next year.
From the funds collected over these events The Lions Club of Leigh on Sea is proud to have made the following donations:
- Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School, the final amount needed, £603.50, for a bike for a pupil.
- Rayleigh, Rochford & Castle Point Talking Newspapers for the Blind donation for Twister memory sticks: £200
- Manchester Drive Women’s Environmental Network – Donated a strimmer, £169.
- Stroke UK, £202, supporting a person having had a stroke who is to swim 101 miles in 101 days from 15 Jan 2012 to celebrate his 50th birthday.
- HARP – Sleeping Bags and other equipment valued at £300.
- Leigh on Sea, Salvation Army - £200 towards their Christmas Meal
The Clubs Charity shop recently moved from Westcliff to Leigh on Sea, having been in Westcliff for some 10 weeks during which time the club raised some £2,500.
The clubs new Charity Shop is located at 1492 - 1494 London Road, Leigh on Sea, it is now open and any donations (Clothing, Bric a Brac etc) or volunteers to help us run this would be very welcome.
