The Lions Mid-Summer Sports Day

The Event
The Lions Clubs from Canvey Island, Castle Point, Eastwood Branch, Leigh on Sea, Rayleigh, and Southend on Sea are getting together at King John School in Benfleet on 30th June 2012 for what promises to be the largest event of its kind ever held in Essex and even larger than last year.
The Clubs and Branch are putting together an all day festival for the benefit of those who suffer from any form of disability where a host of sporting and other associated events will be organised with prizes being awarded to participating individuals and their associated clubs.
Sporting events are expected to include:

archery, discus, javelin, shot put, target golf, target bowls, petanque (boules), new age kurling, table tennis, bags in buckets, bomber darts, shove ha’penny, sticky balls and various other similar activities.

Five-a-side football under the direction of Essex F.A. and Soccability

Wheelchair barn dance
The whole event is being sponsored by the Lions Clubs from South East Essex who will be organising entertainment and catering for the participants.
We would be interested to hear from any clubs or individuals from around the District wishing to take part, either as participants or as volunteer helpers.
The Co-ordinators
The event is being organised by Lions from South East Essex and the co-ordinator is Leigh on Sea Lions Club.
The Venue - The King John School
The King John School is our choice because it provides us with:

easy car access without all the traffic congestion that could be associated with the Southend area and with easy directions to find the School
-
a large sports ground and a large hall for the events
-
sports equipment available on site
-
sixth form involvement.
The School, in the form of the Head Teacher, the teachers involved with sport and the sixth formers are very supportive.
